- If the victim is on the ice and you are unable to attempt a rescue, e.g. you are unsure of your rescuing skills or the ice is too dangerous, marking the exact location of the victim is extremely valuable for the Rescue Service.
- Place a marker (a branch, glove, etc.) to the place you are standing at on the shore and choose another marker (treetop, chimney, etc.) on the opposite shore from the victim’s location.
Move 10-20 m along the shore and repeat the same procedure. - The intersection of the two imaginary lines marks the victim’s exact location.
PS! The markers on the shore need to be stationary, mobile objects (ship masts, etc.) are improper.
